Nevada City, CA
General Plan Safety Element Update

July 29 Public Workshop Agenda

The City of Nevada City is conducting an update to the General Plan Safety Element. The Safety Element, part of the City’s General Plan, is a policy document that addresses existing and future safety needs for all Nevada City residents and economic groups. The goal of the Safety Element is to reduce the potential short and long-term risk of death, injuries, property damage, and economic and social dislocation resulting from fires, floods, droughts, earthquakes, landslides, climate change, and other hazards. State law requires jurisdictions, such as Nevada City, to timely update their Safety Elements.

In recent years, wildfires have been increasing in frequency and intensity in Nevada County, while extreme heat events have broken temperature records and become longer in duration. These trends are expected to continue, which will result in placing more communities, like Nevada City, at risk of harm. To address these new climate trends and resulting environmental conditions, the Safety Element Update will identify steps that local communities can take to reduce the risks posed by wildfire, flooding, extreme heat, and other climate impacts.

The City is conducting a kick off  public workshop with the City Council and Planning Commission at 6:00 pm, July 29, 2021, regarding this update and to obtain public input. This meeting
