The City contracts for legal services with Jones & Mayer, 6349 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95621 PH: (916) 771-0635 and they have assigned Dean Pucci, Of Counsel to firm, as the currently designated City Attorney for Nevada City.

The City Attorney provides legal advice to the City Manager, City Council, Mayor, and city departments and commissions, working with the City Manager and staff as requested to carry out the City Council’s goals and to represent the City in legal matters not contracted out to other firms.

The nature and extent of legal services to be provided in house are as determined and requested by the City, but may include: drafting and review of various contracts, ordinances, resolutions and documents; providing legal advice and issuing written and oral instructions and opinions in areas such as land use, housing, personnel, conflicts of interest, economic development, finance, the Brown Act, and elections; an d assisting with litigation involving the City as necessary to represent the City’s interests.

The firm attorney designated to act as City Attorney attends Council and Strategic Planning meetings and, upon request Planning Commission and other City meetings, to provide advice as legal issues arise.
