Chief's Message
Welcome to the Nevada City Police Department's web page. As Chief of Police, I am privileged to lead an excellent group of officers, professional staff and volunteers. Each day, I am heartened to witness the quality of work and dedication displayed by our Department members as they strive to provide the highest quality of police service.

Excellent police service is our daily mission. Whether you are: raising a family in Nevada City, one of our visitors, simply enjoying a meal at one of our fine restaurants, staying at one of our world-class Bed and Breakfasts or just experiencing the ambiance of the city, we want your encounter to be safe, fun and memorable. I truly believe the Citizens, Visitors and Business Owners are well served by the members of the Nevada City Police Department.

Our Department's primary philosophy is that policing involves all members of the community. We firmly believe that only through active communication, engagement and partnership with all our community members, can we maintain and improve the quality of life we are enjoying. Together we will proactively address crime and the fear of crime through a relationship of shared responsibility, using proven problem-solving methods and partnerships, to elevate the quality of life in all our neighborhoods. We invite you to become involved with your Department in order to forge a strong cooperative partnership that is built upon mutual trust and respect. No police department can solve crime or quality of life issues alone. Effective police community relations, communication, and engagement are critical components to our success. This web site is one of the many ongoing steps that we are taking to reach out to the community to improve lines of communication. In these pages you will find information on the services provided by the Nevada City Police Department and also about the dedicated officers, professional staff and volunteers who provide these services to you. Periodically we will update this site to provide you information on special events and crime prevention information on various topics. Please take the time to learn more about the NCPD's members and services. Take advantage of the many opportunities to communicate with us and learn how we can better work together. We look forward to working with you. There are many opportunities for you to partner alongside with us to make Nevada City better! We look forward to you joining our efforts.

Feel free to contact us if you have a question or comment. I look forward to working with all of you to build a stronger police-community partnership for a better and safer Nevada City.

Sincerely,

Timothy A. Foley
