Burn Permits are no longer available within City limits
At the June 27, 2012 City Council meeting the council passed Ordinance No. 2012-06 which amends the Municipal Code to restrict open burning. Section 8.08.010 reads in part that:
A. It is unlawful for any person or persons, for the purposes of disposal, to burn trash, lumber, leaves, pine needles, straw, or any other combustible material in any street, alley or lot in the city.
B. This prohibition is not intended to apply to or disallow safe and responsible:
1. fires in devices designed for outdoor warming, such as patio fire places, chimneys or other portable wood burning devices used for outdoor recreation and/or heating;
2. burning of charcoal, clean untreated wood or other cooking fuels customarily used in an outdoor grill, traditional food cooking devices, or campfires;
3. recreational, ceremonial, or special event fires approved in advance by the chief of the department done in a manner and at a time approved by him under such safeguards as he may direct.
Therefore, burn permits will no longer be issued. Burn permits issued prior to June 27, 2012 are no longer valid regardless of when they were dated. Please contact the Nevada City Fire Department at (530) 265-2351 for any questions concerning open burning.
